Gravity Yoga (Flexibility Training)
Gravity yoga consists of holding various flexibility-building poses for around 2 to 5 minutes or longer. These poses can be are selected to target the deep connective tissues, ligaments, joints, and bones, with the intention of expanding the yogi’s mobility – that is, the range and ease with which the joints and muscles can move.
Unlike other styles which are focused in part on building strength such as ashtanga or Hatha, all the poses in gravity yoga are held passively. The whole body is kept completely relaxed, (or ‘limp’), to allow gravity to do all the work of stretching – hence the name gravity yoga.
Hatha Yoga
Hatha refers to the physical practice of yoga. Classes typically involve a set of physical postures (yoga poses) and breathing techniques. This type of yoga class is practiced more slowly and with more static posture holds than perhaps a Vinyasa flow or Ashtanga class.
Postures are held for an extended period to ensure proper alignment, and build strength and flexibility. The liberal use of yoga props is also encouraged. Hatha yoga is about finding balance. This is an excellent class to learn the foundations of yoga in a safe and supportive environment.
Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga classes are based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, a foremost yoga teacher who pioneered the use of props to support the body. Restorative yoga leads the yogi toward a more healing and recuperative experience and frequently relies on the use of props. This support to the body enables the prolonged holding of a few simple poses to achieve a deep (DEEP) level of relaxation. A lot of Yogis refer to Restorative yoga as “Adult Nap Time”.
This kind of yoga is the perfect supplement to more active classes like hot yoga or vinyasa yoga and a great recovery tool for those overcoming illness or injury. Yogis of all levels will benefit from a rejuvenating restorative yoga class. It’s one of the best ways to counter a fast-paced, stressed-out life off the mat. Restorative yoga helps balance the mind and body, relieve tension and anxiety, improve the immune system, stretch deep fascia, increase flexibility and pave the way for meditation.

Being a part of a community will foster accountability. This will, in turn, make it more difficult for you to blow off your classes and fall behind on your wellness goals—especially during these times.
